Hosei University  
In 1903, the institution was renamed Hosei University. At this time, the university had a considerable number of students from China, among whom were those who later were prominent politically and culturally in Chinese history. For these international students, intensive English courses were established in what became the universityfs first international program. Hosei University won recognition as a private university in 1920 in accordance with the law regulating universities. Subsequently, the faculties of Law and Economics were established. The years following saw Hosei employ Nogami Toyoichiro, Morita Sohei, AbeYoshishige, and Uchida Hyakken, four prominent thinkers and pupils of the eminent writer Natsume Soseki.
